Laser cutting panels is an excellent way to divide areas, disfuse light and even add decoration to an interior or exterior wall. The versatility of CNC laser cutting really comes into it’s own when cutting panels as the design is really only limited to your imagination…
Fibre laser is obvious choice for play equipment manufacturer…
We regularly complete work for playground equipment installers and manufacturers, including climbing equipment, gates, cages, decorative pieces as well as sheet material for slides.
Cutting mainly thinner sheets of mild steel (S275, CR4 & Floorplate etc.) our fibre lasers are able to make light work of even the more complex profiles.
We’re proud to announce that we have invested in two brand new, high powered CNC laser cutting machines from Bystronic UK, a clear sign of our ongoing commitment to remain at the forefront of the laser profiling industry.
Cutting non-ferrous and highly reflective materials using CO2 laser technology has always been a tricky operation. Due to the potential issues that can arise, many profiling companies has often shied away from using lasers to cut these reflective metals.
Charles Day, a leading Sheffield based laser cutting and profiling firm, was recently commissioned by bespoke hand-built drum manufacturer VK Drums to laser cut a range of drum parts including Stainless Steel drum hoops, mounts and lugs plus many more.
Priding themselves on their attention to detail and the quality of the materials going into each drum kit, VK Drums required a laser cutting service which provided the highest level of finish and cut quality, befitting of their reputation, a service for which Charles Day was more than happy to provide.
Back in October 2013 one of our customers Stefan Tooke was commissioned to make a new crosier for the Bishop of Sheffield Steven Croft. A crosier is a ceremonial staff used by the Bishop, the Bishops current crosier is over 100 years old and is not allowed to leave Sheffield cathedral.
Not only will the new crosier be able to be used in ceremonies in other parishes, but the piece jointly celebrates the centenary of Harry Brearley’s discovery of stainless steel in 2013 and the centenary of the Sheffield Cathedral which was elevated from parish church status when the new diocese was created in 1914.
Local Sheffield artist Lucy Coyne contacted us back in March to be a sponsor of the steel city cascade, a stainless steel sculpture to be hung from the roof of the Sheffield Winter Gardens.
The project was collaboration between Lucy and various schools within Sheffield to design and fabricate a suspended sculpture. It is centre piece to the Sheffield Children’s Festival but also incorporates the 100 year stainless steel celebrations.

He was commissioned to design and craft a limited run of stainless steel centennial knives. Sticking to the history of Portland Works he wanted to create a kitchen knife. Stuart came to Charles Day (Steels) to get his knife blanks laser cut, after which he crafted them into works of art.
