We would like to take this opportunity to say a thank you to all of our staff, stakeholders, suppliers, partners and customers for your support during 2015. We are looking forward to 2016 and working with all of you next year. Season’s greetings from all of us and we wish you a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
2015 saw a number of interesting developments at Charles Day Steels. We invested a further £1m into our laser cutting Facilities with two brand new, high powered CNC laser cutting machines from Bystronic UK, a clear sign of our ongoing commitment to remain at the forefront of the laser profiling industry. The decision to invest in a second fibre laser has already helped us tap into sectors we previously would have struggled to be competitive as well as helping us improve our offering to our existing customers.
We have a large proportion of customers working within the construction industry and therefore BS EN 1090-1 compliance is vitally important. We underwent extensive auditing in order to implement a Factory Production Control system that complies with the CPR, ensuring Charles Day can become your number one supplier of CE ready profiles and cut parts.
Since we installed our first flatbed water jet cutting machine almost a decade ago, we’ve seen the popularity of this cutting method grow considerably. We increased our water jet cutting services during 2015 and thought we could take this opportunity to look at just why water jet cutting is so popular and what benefits it possesses over other profiling methods such as laser cutting, flame cutting and plasma cutting. Cutting plastics by water jet is possible due to the absence of heat in the process, meaning no toxic fumes are released and there is no chance of melting the plastic itself. Ensuring a consistent, uniform cut edge is provided around the part.
We introduced our bevelling service which is suitable for use across all of our profiling methods. We can provide weld preps, bevels and chamfers in angles up to 60 degrees on plates between 6mm to 60mm (greater thicknesses available on request). Weld preparation of metal parts carried out during the profiling process has helped numerous customers save time and money.
A significant investment project has been implemented at Charles Day Steels over the last month with new Server technology and in excess of 15 PC’s installed across the company. We also introduced a new software application that provides the most advanced nesting algorithms and machining strategies (Thinkingmetal Technology) for any of the existing cutting (laser, plasma, oxy-fuel, water jet technologies) and punching machines. Lantek opened its UK office in March 2000 and has now expanded to include the full suite of Lantek Sheet Metal Solutions, including Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) in addition to our CAD/CAM Nesting software. Investing in your future is investing our future.
2015 has been an exciting year at Charles Day Steels with major investments across all areas to help you, our customer get the job done right, first time, every time. This would not be possible without our team including management, office staff and our highly skilled machine operators. We are pleased to announce two new staff members across two very different roles. We welcome Ahmed Mohammed as a Design Draughtsman and Domonic Sorrell as a Machine Operator Apprentice and look forward to them adding value to Charles Day Steels and our customers as we move into 2016.
