Overview of Water Jet Fabrication and Other
Techniques
Profiling and cutting of hard materials like steel
and ceramics, requires specialised equipment and techniques.
These include flame cutting, CNC laser cutting and most
importantly waterjet
cutting. In this method of cutting, water in a pressurized
form is used as a cutter. Water forced through a nozzle
made from diamond or sapphire, at incredibly high pressures
can cut wood and aluminum very well. The materials that
are cut or profiled using the waterjet technique are
called Waterjet Cut Profiles. The pressurized
water when mixed with an abrasive material such as garnet
can be used to cut harder materials like steel. This
mixture provides fine finishing to the material being
subjected to the cutting process.
Applications of waterjet cutting
Waterjet profiling can be used across a huge range
of materials and applications:
- Cutting wood
- Granite Profiling
- Tool steel
- Armour plate cutting
- Structuring
- Ablation
Advantages of using Waterjet cutting
Waterjet profiling has taken over as the number one
profiling technique for the following reasons:
- Since no heat is applied to the material it is
excellent for cutting metals whose properties or state
changes on the application of excessive heat.
- waterjet cutting can produced exceptionally detailed
profiling.
- Due to nesting capabilities and a narrow cutting
kerf, material wastage is kept to a minimum.
- The automation of waterjet mechanism can be done
quite easily.
- Waterjet
Metal Cutting leaves no burring.
Since the time we were established, Charles Day Steel
have been dedicated to providing our customers with
quality waterjet
profiling and cutting services. Apart from the waterjet
method, we also offer our clients flame cutting and
CNC Laser cutting services.
