Laser Cutting Steel

Laser Profiling Carbon and Mild Steel

Our state-of-the-art laser cutting facilities can easily handle a full range of carbon and mild steels in thicknesses up to 20mm and sheet sizes to 4m x 2m. Running 24 hours a day, our laser cutting machines can easily handle virtually any requirement.

Traditionally cut using flame, the invention of laser profiling opened up the possibilities when it came to how mild/carbon steels were cut.

Using lasers to cut mild steel has been the choice of many of our customers since we installed our first sub-contract laser cutting machine back in 1999. Laser cutting mild steels is preferred to other methods as it offers excellent cut edge quality, short leadtimes and can prove to more economical to other profiling methods.

Laser Cutting Mild Steel

We keep popular thicknesses and sheet/plate sizes in stock. If we don't, we can usually source it within 48 hours. We can also laser cut your free issue steel. Test certificates can be supplied when requested.

Over the years we have profiled all grades of this versatile metal for numerous industries from creative design to structural steelworkers. We commonly cut thicknesses from 0.25mm up to 20mm. If you have a requirement for laser cut carbon steel profiles, contact our experienced Sales Team today and they'll be happy to help.

Steel Laser Cutting Capabilities

Maximum Cutting Size:

4m x 2m (4000mm x 2000mm) – Larger sheet sizes can be handled by our waterjet, flame and plasma machines.

Maximum Material Thickness:

20mm

Minimum Material Thickness:

0.25mm (Depending on material).

Complex Details:

Our CNC laser machines are incredibly accurate and can easily process the most complex and intricate profiles (Thickness of steel may impact certain details).

Cutting Tolerances:

View our laser cutting tolerances here.

Cutting Edge Quality:

We can achieve a good edge quality when we laser cut mild steel up to 20mm thick. (As the thickness increases the striations on the cut-edge become more prominent.)

Steel Grades:

We can laser cut steel plates and sheets and in a numerous grades and alloys. Below is a selection of our most commonly requested grades:

  • S275
  • S355
  • CR4 – Cold Reduced
  • EN8
  • 400 Wearplate / 400 Brinell
  • S690QL High Yield
  • Weathering Steel / COR-TEN
  • Galvanised
  • Tool Steel
  • Durbar/Floor Plate

We can also cut hot-rolled and cold-rolled steels that may not appear on this list. Please contact us for details.

BS EN 1090-1 Compliance:

ce mark

We have achieved full BS EN 1090-1 conformity to enable us to provide CE Ready laser cut steel for structures in execution class EXC 1 to EXC 3.

Our compliance allows us to cut the following mild steels for use within steel structures:

  • S235
  • S275
  • S355

More information on our CE ready laser cutting services can be found here.
